Mythras: The Badlands Tournament - Fight 2 (Round of 8)

Introduction Ok, we've got the second combat in the round of eight. This time it's Ploix the goblin vs Vrog the orog (think LOTR's uruk hai). But first I forgot last time that Lovar the dwarf gets his experience rolls to see if he gains any skill points. We're going to give the contestants two experience rolls each time they win a battle. In this case they need to roll equal to or greater their skill level to receive an increase of 1D4+1 points. If they roll under their skill level they still receive a 1%/1 point increase anyway. Lovar makes an experience roll: 53 +18 Intelligence = 71 vs 70 Combat. Success! Combat skill increased to (+1D4+1): 75% Lovar makes an experience roll: 24 +18 Int = 42 vs 60 Brawn. Failure! Brawn increased to (+1%): 61% Here's where we're up to with the round of eight: 1. Lovar, Dwarf vs Traynon, Half-Orc 2. Ploix, Goblin vs Vrog, Orog 3. Hebnec, Deep Gnome vs Chaggos, Gnoll 4. Ook, Awakened Baboon vs Koz, Hobgoblin 5. Gorgo, Orc vs Ful...

Mythras: The Badlands Tournament

In a distant world there is a place called The Badlands, ruled over by the evil overlord Baithorian. One day he decided to find a champion to be his personal retainer and bodyguard, so he announced a grand tournament. Participants would fight to the death in front of his dreadful court, with the winner of the tournament crowned his personal protector and showered with riches and respect.  They would fight almost naked with naught but rags to cover their modesty. They would fight with weapons randomly chosen for them and be rewarded with a piece of armour for each fight they won. Fights would take place on the seventh day of each week, and survivors would be provided with healing while they awaited their next duel. It would not be fair in any way. Introduction This is my second attempt at a Mythras tournament after I tried a while ago using Dark Sun as a setting. My upcoming Mythras Classic Fantasy campaign will feature Baithorian as the bad guy and the winner of this tournament as ...

Mythras: A Tournament in the World of Dark Sun - Fight 1

Image
Introduction I've been reading the Mythras rulebook because I wanted to try out another game with crunchy tactical combat after the alternating fun and tedium of running a fight in The Riddle of Steel . This time instead of just trying out one fight I thought why not do a whole tournament with sixteen people (because I'm mad, obviously). I'd been watching YouTube videos about D&D's old Dark Sun campaign setting and thought it would make a great backdrop for a brutal tournament of mortal combat, so I got some Dark Sun materials from Drivethru RPG and got reading. Athas is a post-apocalyptic fantasy world where abuse of magic has ruined the planet, turning it into a huge desert where civilisation is crowded into city states run by despots, powerful sorcerer kings who keep a tight grip on the exclusive use of magic. Metal is rare and expensive, with most armour and weapons made from cheaper materials. Slavery is rife, halflings are cannibals and the sun will kill you...
