Tarnen, a wandering adventurer is  trying to solve the mystery of how an unemployed ropemaker, Anmah Yarvan was killed on the roadside south of the city of Queenstead. Faval, the gardener from the local temple of Asoth has accompanied him to a small forest outside the city to find a mysterious ranger who might be able to uncover clues as to what killed Yarvan. Scene 5 (Continued) | Tanglewood Forest, The Downs | Year 645, 2nd of 7th Month | Chaos Factor: 5 We're still in the midst of the delve (taken from Ironsworn rules) but since I've played five sessions now I'm going to give Tarnen some experience rolls. The GM gets to decide how many each player gets but the rules recommend between 2 and 4, modified by the character's Experience Modifier, which for Tarnen is +1. I'm going to give him 1D3+1 rolls: 2. I've been away from the blog for a while for various reasons but here's a summary of what I've been getting up to and what I've got planned for the YouTube channel in the near future.

I won't do a whole tutorial on Ironsworn: Delve here but I'll do my best to briefly explain each gameplay mechanic as we encounter it. I've picked the Wild theme and the Tanglewood domain, so we should face the kind of dangers you'd find in a dark forest. Scene 3 | The Veteran’s Garden, Queenstead | Year 645, 2nd of 7th Month | Chaos Factor: 5 Threads: Find work in Queenstead, The Beast, Investigate the dead Var follower, Ogres near Queenstead, Queenstead economic crash Characters: Family, Ally 1, Ally 2, Contact 1, Faval When I used the D30 Sandbox Companion to generate Queenstead it determined that an economic crash was imminent in the city, and that there's a 1 in 30 chance of it happening each day. After playing through the first scene I realised Mythic GME sort of clashes a bit with the old school D&D methods of hexcrawling. The D30 Sandbox Companion provides a lot of encounters and ways to generate terrain and locations in the wilderness, but Mythic expects you to do this by asking it questions like “Does Tarnen encounter anyone on the road today?” rather than rolling a D6. I’m going to continue using the hexmap I’m generating (which I haven’t scanned for the blog yet), rolling dice to determine the biome of each hex but asking the oracle about encounters once per day. Let's just get right into playing this time, we can generate the world as we go from here. Tarnen is roughly 20 miles south of the small city of Queenstead, having left his hometown (to be detailed later) and set off for the nearest settlement. One quick note is that I moved "The Beast" from the characters list to the threads list as on closer inspection of the tables it makes more sense for it to be treated as a kind of plot thread than a character.
