Expected Scene: Meet with Ezri Tungertok and repair a "gadget" for her.
Testing the Expected Scene:
D10: 1. Altered scene.
Two possibilities: Either Ezri finds Mateo herself, or she's not there.
Fate question: Is Ezri missing? (Unlikely). If the answer's no she'll find him.
//68: No.
Mateo walks through the docking connector, a rickety old tube connecting the docking bay with Aurum 80's common area. It's like a bustling city in there with dangerous looking scaffolding supporting upper floors filled with shops and stalls where scruffy looking people haggle, buy and sell. He sees the large flickering sign for The Tsurutsuru bar and then a young woman jumps out at him from the crowd.
"Rover, right? Mira said you'd be coming to find me." She has dark skin, long straggly brown hair and wears oil-stained work overalls.
"Ezri?" Mateo asks.
"Yeah that's me." She looks at the tools poking out from his satchel. "Looks like you mean business. C'mon, I'll show you this thing."
Ezri leads him down an alley to her living quarters, a shipping container fitted with a metal door and barred window. Inside, she points to something lying on the table.
Is it a prototype (D4):
1. Weapon?
2. Armour?
3. Hub tech module?
4. Electronic gadget?
//4: Electronic gadget
Rolling a D14 on the electronics table in the rulebook:
//1. Animal replica with simple AI
What is the animal? (Random animal generator website)
We'll find out in a second...
"What the hell's that?" Mateo asks, dumbfounded. Lying spreadeagle on the table in the dimly lit room is what looks like an animal covered in brown fur, four legs splayed out either side of it with three long claws growing from the paws. Its face has a slightly gormless smile on it but it remains completely still, unmoving as they approach it."
"That is a three-toed sloth. They're originally from the Old World."
"It's artificial?"
"Of course it is." She says, amused. "This was an early model made by a company a few systems away. It never made it to mass market so it's incredibly rare and I can't find replacement parts for it anywhere. Please just have a look at him, he's my only friend in this rusted dump of a station."
Since there are no spare parts available for the robot sloth Mateo will need to make an ability check (rather than just use a spare part with automatic success). To do this we roll a D20, add the relevent ability and aim for 12 or higher.
//Ability check: Tech
4 +2 TEC = 6. Failure
+1 void point
Mateo fiddles with the sloth for half an hour but is forced to admit defeat. A custom made chip has burnt out and there's no way to repair it, so it would have to be replaced.
How does Ezri react? (2D6 on NPC reactions table):
//3: Unfriendly
"What the hell man? Mira said you were good!" She shouts at Mateo suddenly.
"I'm sorry- I-" He stutters.
"Just get out of here! Go!" The woman shoves him towards the door and he hurries out. Looking over his shoulder as the door swings shut, he catches a glimpse of her clutching the limp body of the robot to her chest like an infant.
For failing the ability check Mateo gains a void point. This can be spent to gain advantage on a future check (rolling 2D20 and picking the best one) or used to activate a cosmic mutation, which he doesn't have.
That's the end of that scene then, and I've just noticed I'm supposed to check a list of criteria at the end of each game session and award 1XP for each one. I'll do it at the end of each scene as sometimes my sessions are only twenty minutes or even shorter.
End of Scene 2
Update Lists: Removed "Repair Ezri's prototype" from threads list.
Adjust Chaos Factor: +1. New chaos factor is 5.
Character Advancement: No criteria met. 0XP rewarded.
