Mythras: Tarnen the Wanderer Part 6

Tarnen, a wandering adventurer is trying to solve the mystery of how an unemployed ropemaker, Anmah Yarvan was killed on the roadside south of the city of Queenstead. Faval, the gardener from the local temple of Asoth has accompanied him to a small forest outside the city to find a mysterious ranger who might be able to uncover clues as to what killed Yarvan.

Scene 5 (Continued) | Tanglewood Forest, The Downs | Year 645, 2nd of 7th Month | Chaos Factor: 5

We're still in the midst of the delve (taken from Ironsworn rules) but since I've played five sessions now I'm going to give Tarnen some experience rolls. The GM gets to decide how many each player gets but the rules recommend between 2 and 4, modified by the character's Experience Modifier, which for Tarnen is +1.

I'm going to give him 1D3+1 rolls: 2.
I'll choose the skills myself as per the rules.

Experience Roll: Perception
D100 result: 72 (+16 INT) = 88 vs 25% Perception skill.
Perception increases by 1D4+1%.
25 + 5 = 30%

Experience Roll: Fighting Man Combat Style
D100 result: 96 (+16 INT) = 112 vs 49% Fighting Man skill.
Fighting Man increases by 1D4+1%.
49 + 3 = 52%

Pretty good results. On with the game!

Tarnen and Faval take a few minutes to get their breath back after killing the mad boar (Tarnen's winded status removed), and then they press onward.

Delve the Depths
Tarnen makes a Perception check (30%): 33. Failure.
Faval makes a Perception check (36%): 11. Success!
Weak hit: Mark progress and reveal a danger
Site progress: 6/10

Reveal a Danger
D100: 22. Weather or environmental threat

As they head deeper towards the centre of the woods the wind rises and a light gale begins, the trees thrash around and it becomes difficult to traverse the thick undergrowth. The gale will continue until the end of the next Delve the Depths move, and make all skill checks one grade higher (difficult when they would have been standard etc).

Delve the Depths
Tarnen makes a Perception check (30%): 45. Failure.
Faval makes a Perception check (36%): 39. Failure.
Miss: Reveal a danger.
Site progress: 6/10

Reveal a Danger
D100: 78. You confront a harrowing situation or sensation.
Ask the oracle: Defend hindrance

As the gale rages the pair come across a wolf and its cub on the trail they've been following. The cub seems to be wounded, lying in a pool of blood with its mother sitting next to it, licking its wounds.

Opposed Perception roll (Tarnen 30% vs Wolf 60%)
Tarnen: 90 (Failure)
Wolf: 16 (Success)

The wolf's ears prick up and it bolts upright, putting itself between its cub and the two men, snarling. Tarnen attempts to pass by the two animals, giving them a wide berth so as not to enrage the wolf.

Opposed roll: Influence vs Willpower (Tarnen 47% vs Wolf 44%)
Tarnen: 64 (Failure)
Wolf: 47 (Failure)

The wolf continues snarling at Tarnen and he loses his confidence for a moment, freezing in place. He begins moving again very slowly.

Opposed roll: Influence vs Willpower (Tarnen 47% vs Wolf 44%)
Tarnen: 21 (Success)
Wolf: 12 (Success with lower number/better result)

Suddenly the wolf lunges forward at Tarnen and he draws his sword and shield. Next time, combat!
