The map of Eilobar. The circle is the party's location at the end of this session. I'm playing a mashup of  Scarlet Heroes  and  Basic Fantasy RPG  with a few supplements to turn it into a solo fantasy hexcrawl in the world of Eilobar, a doomed land entering its end times. I'm using the  Level 0 Character Tumbler , Hexcrawl Aventures and also  47 Critical Hit Tables to Spice Up Your Game . Starting with level 0 characters I'm attempting to keep them alive long enough to level up from -100 to 1 XP and become actual heroes Introduction Now that the new recruits have levelled up we can assign then classes and traits. Helia will be a thief. She gets 1 point in the Halfling Stealth trait, and we'll give her 2 in Open Lock and 2 in Disable Trap. She gets a +1 attack bonus, a 1D6 fray die and her HP remain the same since thieves start with just 4 plus their constitution modifier. Cyna will be the party's second fighter. She gets 2 points in Athletics, 2 in Animal ...

Starting with level 0 characters I'm attempting to keep them alive long enough to level up from -100 to 1 XP and become actual heroes Introduction When we left the heroes last time they'd just lost the thief Ames to a gang of giant ants - I don't know why I thought it would be a good idea to fight them. I was having a read of the Hexcrawl Adventures supplement and I realised I'd missed out an important part of the rules: Movement points. When travelling across the world map the heroes are supposed to move at a rate determined by the slowest party member. In this case it would be Stilda who in her splint mail can move 20 feet per turn in an encounter or ...

Starting with level 0 characters I'm attempting to keep them alive long enough to level up from -100 to 1 XP and become actual heroes Introduction Stilda has taken new recruits Ames and Bryne on a monster hunting expedition to the Temple of Zon, the site of an ancient massacre near their village. We're trying out the Scarlet Heroes version of dungeon generation this time, rather than Basic Fantasy. In future I might try a combination of the two. The Adventure After looting the small guard post between the courtyard cemetary and the acolyte's cells, the heroes try the opposite door in the courtyard. It leads to another guard post, which they search but f...

Starting with level 0 characters I'm attempting to keep them alive long enough to level up from -100 to 1 XP and become actual heroes Introduction We left our heroes as they were about to return to Keyham after a successful delve into the Tunnels of Mothric. The Adventure Pushing the wheelbarrow they found outside the dungeon, they set off for Keyham (this will take one day longer than usual due to the wheelbarrow). After camping in the ruined village overnight they discover the rope they brought has sunk into the boggy ground, making it unusable. The wheelbarrow is hard to manuevre in the swamp. It rains making the ground so muddy they are stranded for...

After hunting down a chelonian and killing it, they went back to Keyham. The Adventure They give the chelonian scales to Yorthmaf. He says it will take him until the next day to bind the spellbook and transcribe a spell. He agrees to transcribe Magic Missile (from the BFRPG rulebook, probably the most useful spell for a combat heavy first level adventure). Let's...

Starting with level 0 characters I'm attempting to keep them alive long enough to level up from -100 to 1 XP and become actual heroes. Introduction Last time we left the surviving villagers still lost in the Maze of Mothric, enduring their funnel adventure/character tumbler. If the handful of survivors can make it out, they'll gain an experience point and become level 1 Scarlet Heroes. The Adventure Celomir the hunter, Dill (his dog), Bryne (hermit) and Ames (beggar) have teamed up. They can see the stairway leading up and out of the maze, so they head for it. Celomir notices a crystal set in the wall at chest height. Fearing a magical trap, he examines it....
